Happiness in the Home

There is a direct correlation between where your relationship to the space you call home and your mental state of being.

NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) has done extensive research on the correlation of how cleaning your space can help improve your mood.

Now, as an individual whom has experienced phases of mental illness, my home has truly become a definable place for me to rest and seek comfort. The thing is, my home is not for everyone! I have an eclectic taste, but when I get home, I see framed photos of my friends, flowers that should probably get new water, dish towels from my grandma, and notes from my parents on my walls. Displaying what brings me joy creates a home of light.

So, if your space has been lacking this feeling, I have some easy solutions for you!

The image above showcases how you can incorporate moments of joy so easily in your space. Hung up are notes with painters tape and inside the cabinets are colored mix matched bowls and plates that look homemade. This is inside of a cabinet so you can easily close it away if you don’t want it constantly in site, but anytime you grab a bowl or a plate, it can give you a reminder of joy:)

This image shows on how you can make your fridge not just a boring box! They use there’s as a collage of memories. Something about the saved bottles too allow for beautiful light beams in your kitchen!

Here is a super similar idea to the fridge if you share an apartment and want to have that idea in different areas of your home!

And lastly, if you do not really like the “lose hanging” images, frame a card from someone you love and hang it on your front door!! So, whenever you leave, you see something that makes you smile.

All four of these ideas can help lighten the mood if your space and are an affordable and easy solution!
