Facebook marketplace is my saving grace.
Yes, I doom scroll Facebook marketplace. And no, I don’t need anymore furniture in my home! But, I have some tips on how to use marketplace especially for my clients living in San Francisco.
First, it is social media at the end of the day, so you need to curate you algortihim to best align with your tastes.
Save items you have seen that peak your intetst.
Save searches you use for a hard to find piece or certain key words.
Click and spend time looking at items that you enjoy.
By doing these things, you will be able to teach your algorithm to show you similar listings.
Second, master what exactly you are searching for. Typing in MCM (mid-Century Modern) is like saying he’s a nice guy…. its overused and it wont get you what you want!
Swap the terms “MCM sofa” for “Vintage couch”. This will give you a wider selection.
Type in “old table” or “wood dresser” because no one in their 80s will sell there Scandinavian minimalism coffee table descripting it as such.
Try searching typos! Look up “mirrow” instead of “mirror” or “dinning table” instead of “dining table”.
Now, if your San Francisco, act fast! Items sell wuick and be kind to the seller.
Once you have secured your piece, a great company to use is Lugg! They have picked up and dropped off many of my marketplace finds.
Now…. here are some of my current favorite marketplace finds!
