Window treatments

The simplest way to upgrade your space is to upgrade your window treatments. Chances are your apartment is provided with simple white pull-downs, and it will make your space look outdated and cheap.

My go-to solution is installing Roman shades. I linked a pair from Amazon that is renter-friendly and on the less expensive side.

The photo on the left was from the day I moved into my apartment… bad. The curtains look so ugly!! Now I have bamboo Roman shades that add so much warmth to my space and elevate my windows.

But if bamboo is not your style, you can choose fabric Roman shades too.

I think both of these choices are great ideas for white walls! It's an easy way to add color and pattern to stark walls.

Curtains can be more expensive, but IKEA does have great options with easy-to-hang rods!

I’m using my friend Allie’s apartment as an example for some DIY curtains with some Etsy fabric to match her space.

Allie has some typical vertical blinds currently in her apartment. Her style is very warm, and she loves nature patterns that gravitate toward Nikki Kehoe style patterns. I took her style and found this fabric on Etsy. From there, she can use this fabric to create her own curtains. This will add color and warmth while complementing Allie’s style. I created a quick Photoshop below of how window treatments could change her space.
